We are giving away two Shokai Kaiseki set menus with sake pairing and a pair of tickets to see Nagata Shachu x TorQ concert on April 2nd at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre.

Our Shokai Kaiseki set menu features four courses including zensai (appetizer), entrée, signature Aburi sushi, and dessert. Thoughtfully paired with sake, it’s the perfect start to an evening you won’t soon forget. If you’ve never been to a Taiko (Japanese drum) performance, it’s hard to describe the energy and excitement that radiates from the performers into the crowd.

Nagata Shachu Japanese taiko and music group is proud to present an exciting collaborative concert with percussion quartet TorQ, as part of its 2015-2016 season.

Described by the Ottawa Citizen as “Outstanding – no, make that astonishing!”, Canada’s premiere percussion ensemble TorQ continues to bring new vitality to their performances that have spanned the globe. Renowned for their engaging performances, members Richard Burrows, Adam Campbell, Jamie Drake, and Daniel Morphy are committed to making percussion music accessible to all audiences. They will join Canada’s premiere taiko ensemble, Nagata Shachu in an exciting mash-up of Japanese, Western and other musical traditions.

We have  put an Aburi spin on the traditional Kaiseki meal, carefully paired with sakes by Miki Ellis, Aburi Restaurant’s sake specialist. Aburi Restaurants Canada Announces Opening of Miku Toronto


Aburi Restaurants Canada announces the grand opening of Miku Toronto on October 16 as its first foray outside of Vancouver. Specializing in Aburi flame-seared sushi and seafood, the restaurant will combine its award-winning flavours with local Ontario ingredients to cater to the Toronto market. Situated in the RBC WaterPark Place building at 10 Bay Street, close to the city’s scenic waterfront and steps away from the newly renovated Union Station, the 7,000 square foot restaurant features two private dining rooms, a fresh raw bar and large outdoor patio.

“Since introducing Aburi flame-seared sushi to Vancouver six years ago, it has always been our goal to bring the Aburi flavour to the East Coast,” says Seigo Nakamura, Founder/CEO, Aburi Restaurants Canada. “Internationally, Toronto is known as a cultural hub with a rapidly growing culinary scene. Opening Miku in Toronto is a natural step toward making Aburi Restaurants a truly global brand.”

Having years of experience with Aburi Restaurants Canada, Corporate Executive Chef, Kazuya Matsuoka, Chef de Cuisine, Michael Acero, and Head Sushi Chef, Kazuki Uchigoshi, will oversee the vibrant menu at Miku Toronto. Guests will be treated to innovative dishes including Miku Restaurant’s signature Aburi “flame-seared” sushi, seafood entrées featuring local and ocean-friendly ingredients, as well as an extensive sake list. Miku Toronto will offer a choice three Kaiseki menus, inspired by traditional Japanese coursed menus, that are beautifully presented on hand-made Arita plateware from Kyushu, Japan.

Aburi Restaurants Canada is founded by Seigo Nakamura, who is also president of Tora Corporation, a successful company with several restaurants across southern Japan. Upon his first visit to Canada he envisioned revolutionizing Vancouver’s competitive sushi market by introducing Aburi sushi, carefully paired with signature sauces and lightly flame seared with Japanese charcoal to enhance the flavours of the fish. After opening Miku Restaurant in Vancouver in 2008, the community embraced the new concept, leading to the launch of Minami and Gyoza Bar. His most recent venture, Miku Toronto, will be his first restaurant in Canada outside of Vancouver.
